This picture is if of Charles Arthur Bowne, and shows him working at the Monotype Corporation during the 1st World War. The picture was supplied by his grand daughter Jaquie Ayling
The Monotype factory was given over to the making of machine gun parts to help the war effort in 1915. Government money help to expand the Monotype site, and Salfords station was added to help with transportation
Monotype was also given over to the production of gun components (mainly browning machine gun) in 1940.
