1: Monotype Garage - used
to repair company cars & commercial vehicles until about 1968 employing
their own mechanic. Auto Fleet Services takes over the garage in 1979 to
service and repair Monotypes fleet of company vehicles 2: Oil Storage
Tanks - supplied fuel oil for the Monotype generators - Monotype generated its
own electricity until 1982, it then went onto the national grid. The generators
were then sold abroad 3: Matrix Building - second machine shop put up
just after the second world war 4: Monotype Car Park - new Monotype
International building erected on the car park in 1988 - now occupied by Cubic
Transportation 2003 5: Dunraven Avenue - built to house managers and
employees working for the Monotype Corporation in 1900. The houses were sold to
a housing trust during the 1980's, then owners were allowed to buy 6:
Gate House (east) - entrance from Honeycrock Lane. Also location of petrol
pumps for fuelling company cars 7: Monotype Corporation main office
block - added at a later date 8: Monotype Corporation Office block -
This was the original office block - the building was extended at a later date
(7) - this can be seen by the different coloured brickwork - you can see the
original building in the photograph at the botton of the page 9:
Power House - this held 2 large generators for generating power and heating for
the whole Monotype site until 1982. The generators ran 24/7 10: Works
Canteen - Monotype employees in the front and Monotype management in the back
with oak paneled walls 11: Main Machine Shop 12: Monotype
International Assembly Shop - assembly of the new technology "Lasercomp" as it
came on stream around 1976. Monotype International office block is just to the
left with the white roof, this is before they built their new headquarters on
the Monotype car park 13: Carpentry Shop - supplying all the wood
working needs for the whole site 14: Waste Material Store - all the
waste products from the machine shops ended up here 15: Monotype
Sports and Social Club - bowling green 16: Monotype Sports and Social
Club - now known as Perrywood Sports and Social Club 17: Garages /
Storage Buildings - including a fire tender, with uniforms and helmets. Garages
for company cars 18: Honeycrock Lane - Salfords village housed many
Monotype employees 19: Gate Hose (west) - entrance into Green Lane
and Salfords railway station - next to the gate house was a barber shop for
employees to get a hair cut during the working day 20: Computer Room
- one of the last buildings to be erected to house the Monotype main frame
computers for accounts/wages ect. The pond can be seen just behind - clay was
extracted from here to make the bricks for the Monotype early buildings. The
hole left behind became the present day pond 21: Plating Shop -
plating and metal treating was carried out here
